A193 B7 Production Process

A193 B7 are sent from the raw material line to the final product. They generally go through the following process:
Annealing of raw materials – pickling – drawing – forming – grinding – heat treatment – surface treatment – classification – packaging – shipping

A193 B7 Application Fields

A193 B7 bolts are commonly used in high-temperature and high-pressure applications such as oil and gas processing facilities, power generation plants, and petrochemical refineries.

Specification for ASTM A193 Grade B7

The ASTM A193 Grade B7 specification outlines the requirements for high tensile alloy steel bolting material suitable for high temperature, high-pressure service, and other specialized applications. This standard specification defines the typical chemical composition, mechanical properties, hardness requirements, preferential heat treatment, product marking, certification, and other necessary criteria, making it suitable for bolting used in pressure vessel service, valves, flanges, and fittings. Additionally, ASTM A193 covers both SI (Metric) and inch-pound units.

Grade B7 is a heat-treated chromium-molybdenum low-alloy steel with a minimum tensile strength requirement of 125 ksi (860 Mpa), yield strength of 105 ksi (720 Mpa), and maximum hardness of 35HRC. Boltport utilizes Alloy Steel AISI 4140 bar stock or forging stock to manufacture both headed and non-headed bolts of Grade B7. A193 Grade B7, coupled with A194 Grade 2H Nuts, is the most commonly used bolt specification for bolting carbon steel pipelines. A193 B7 bolting is available in metric sizes ranging from M6 to M180 and imperial sizes from 1/4 to 7 inches in diameter.

Heat Treatment B7 and B7M fasteners are required to undergo heat treatment by quenching in a liquid medium followed by tempering. In the case of B7M fasteners, the final heat treatment, which may involve tempering at a minimum of 1150 °F [620 °C], must be carried out after all machining and forming processes, including thread rolling and any form of cutting. Surface preparation for hardness testing, nondestructive evaluation, or ultrasonic bolt tensioning is permissible.

Unless otherwise specified, Grade B7 material may be heat-treated using the Furnace, Induction, or Electrical Resistance method.
